Pomegranate Health Systems (PHS) of Columbus is a secure acute and residential treatment center serving adolescents ages 12 to 17 exhibiting a wide range of behavior & emotional difficulties. Pomegranate Health Systems provides mental health services with moderate to severe psychiatric symptoms and functional impairments, as well as moderate to severe behavior difficulties. All programs are under the direction of child & adolescent Psychiatrists and evidenced based practices, from a trauma informed care perspective.
Trauma Informed Care addresses the consequences of trauma in the individual and family in order to facilitate healing and change. Pomegranate Health Systems has adopted The National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children’s definition of trauma as experiencing any situation where an individual has experienced a combination of feeling powerless and unsafe. Trauma is an implicit sensory experience that alters the individual’s view of self and others. Therefore, all interventions must address the sensory experience before it can be cognitively restructured.
Our mental health treatment incorporates:
- An appreciation for the high prevalence of traumatic experiences in persons who receive mental health services
- A thorough understanding of the profound neurological, biological, psychological and social effects of trauma and violence on the individual
- Are based on current literature
- Are informed by research and evidence of effective practice
- Recognize that coercive interventions cause traumatization and re-traumatization and are to be avoided
